In 1975, a librarian from Phoenix created Tunnels & Trolls — the second role-playing game ever published, just months after Dungeons & Dragons.

One year later, he invented something that would change gaming forever: the solo adventure. Buffalo Castle (1976) introduced numbered paragraphs, choices, and dice rolls — the format that would later inspire Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf, and the entire gamebook genre. Six years before Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. Six years before the world noticed.

In this interview, Ken St. Andre shares:→ How he wrote T&T in two weeks out of frustration with D&D's complexity→ The birth of Buffalo Castle and the solo adventure format→ His partnership with Rick Loomis and Flying Buffalo→ Working on Stormbringer and Wasteland→ 35 years as a "mild-mannered librarian" with a secret identity as a game design legend

At 77, Ken is still designing, still publishing, still playing.

This is gaming history, from the man who lived it.
